The Employment Unit completed the following outreach activities during the reporting period covered by this report:

  1. Job Fairs. The Station’s Promotions Director and Promotions Assistant participated in two area job fairs sponsored by Mercyhurst College on November 2, 2006 and Jefferson Career Day on October 9, 2006.
  2. Event Sponsored by Educational Institution. Station meteorologists participated in 20 programs sponsored by educational institutions to discuss weather, careers in broadcasting and employment opportunities with the Station.
    These visits took place during the school year and included schools in Erie, Crawford and Warren Counties.
  3. Internship Program. The Station hired ten interns from the following colleges and universities to work in the news department in exchange for school credit: Edinboro University, Allegheny College, Penn State Behrend, Westminster College and Clarion University.
  4. Event Designed to Disseminate Information about Broadcast Careers. Station management conducted eight station tours for journalism students at Penn State Behrend and Mercyhurst Prep during the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters and for participants from the Cub Scouts in March 2007.
  5. Event Designed to Disseminate Information about Broadcast Careers. Three students from McDowell and East High Schools participated in the news department’s job shadow program. Over a several week period, the students learned about careers in news.
  6. Career Day. On September 18, 2006, a Station reporter and sports anchor held a Career Day at their alma mater; Edinboro University. They talked with students about journalism, careers in broadcasting and hosted a question and answer session.
    The Employment Unit completed the required number of outreach activities over the relevant two-year period.
